Environmental Health and Safety
- The Office of Environmental Health & Safety seeks to be a model for other colleges to follow. It’s developed an extensive Emergency Response Plan organized and developed by the SUNY New Paltz Emergency Management Team and in compliance with the Chancellor’s Taskforce on Critical Incident Management Recommendations.
- Working with the College’s University Police Department, the office created a Campus Safety Day to educate students, faculty, and staff on campus safety resources.
- Also with University Police, the office has created a campus Community Emergency Response Team, which helps prepare the campus community for hazards that may impact the College and trains community volunteers in basic disaster response skills.
- Augie, a geese-herding Border Collie, has “worked” at SUNY New Paltz since 2011. Specially trained to herd geese away from campus without harming them, Augie’s service is an ecofriendly, cost-effective method of keeping the campus cleaner.
